red dirt one day, ICE the next

Road rocks with Dara yesterday for 3 hours, super fun to ride rocks with friends especially girls...then I worked from 2-1030 pm. Woke up this morning pretty sore from Sedona and not sleeping well, on a mission to find Ice skates. I heard the Ice on Lake Mary has been perfect and building every night. It has been only single digits at night. about 30's during the day. Boy it is hard to find skates in Arizona. who would of thought Ice skating in Arizona. the local die hard skaters (Mark & Matt) said the last 3-4 years no good but this year some of the best ice. I got to see old friends Mark Manone and Matt Kaplinski. who else but a bunch of folks originally from Wisconsin and Michigan out there playing on the Ice. Thanks to Jeff and Jane for even making me aware of this great limited sport here in flagstaff. good to see friend's kids out there enjoying the elements. a pic also of Sonny Manone at 5 yrs old shredding on ice. Thanks Jeff for going to lake Mary today..... It was hard to leave the ice at the end of the day..... good to get home and see a shop full of good friends having beers. including Mark and Amanda Mcdaniels from Reno..

steve and I both had some great rides in Sedona last week. good to get out of the cold and be in the warmth of the Red dirt. Steve did a big ride on Tuesday that he is still recovering from. I rode on Thursday with Dara then again yesterday(sat) with Cole and Blair. I have to say yesterday was a great day. drinking coffee with Steve in the am , an awesome ride for about 4 hours in the afternoon. Then arrived home just when Sally and Jeff from Gunnison CO arrive. We then all enjoyed a Posole dinner made by Garro- YUM... The holidays -- time to enjoy and be with family/friends.....MERRY CHRISTMAS....

first tracks-Solitude-

left the chaos of Snow bowl's parking lot as quick as we could. All the chaos I have to say was overwhelming. I stopped down hill skiing about 5 years ago due to bad knees. For me out door enjoyment is all about soaking in my surroundings. the smells, the sounds of nature, peace and solitude. away from the masses. not seeing anyone out on a trail (unless a friend) is always the best days. Deanne and Dave were very generous to let me use their tele gear. first time on skins. I am in no way a tele skier /or will ever be. but the joy of skinning up a steep slope was awesome. the fear of the down hill not knowing how to make a turn I left the skins on. It was Kristina's first time on tele gear and she braved the steep down hill free of skins. Deanne was in her element shredding first tracks in deep powder. beautiful views, first tracks, good friends- great day.......
